My name’s Emily I am 17 and currently studying A levels in Business, Media, Psychology and Sociology at Fallibroome Academy. I had the pleasure of completing a week’s worth of work experience at Big Brand Ideas. My time here has been jam-packed to say the least, from day one the different teams have had me helping on various tasks.
Day one: Development Team
During this day I spent the morning looking at designing my own landing page and understanding what goes into the creation and design of a website. This was very new ground for me as computers and designing are not my strong point, however I found the concept interesting. In the afternoon I was asked to help with the testing of a new website, that had just been finished by the team for a client. My main focus was to test its compatibility and functionality with different browsers.
Day two: Engagement Team
Working with the Engagement Team particularly appealed to me as PR and social media is maybe something I would like to pursue in the future. I started the day by researching bloggers, and influencers for lifestyle and interior accounts. This was interesting as we delved deep into the web and used tools to gather in-depth research.
After this, I learned about one of BBI’s luxury interior clients and had a go at writing press releases for interior trends. This gave me insight, knowledge and experience of which images to gather, the tone of voice and the layouts used. I then observed a member of the team selling in a press release to journalists from glossy interior magazines and pitching a new collection launch. This was a key first-hand experience for me as I haven’t been involved in something like this before.
Day three: Client Services Team
My third day was spent with the client services team. My first task was to take part in a brainstorm, along with the engagement team, where we discussed ideas for a new product launch. This was particularly engaging for me as I spent the morning finding competitor products and buying samples of these. I then helped put together a social analysis of competitors, once again researching the details of their social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This allowed me to create a summary of what the client could do to market its products and who they should be targeting.
Day four: Performance Team
This was certainly a new field for me, however I was pleasantly surprised. I learnt about PPC, SEO, backlinks and how to track data using Google Analytics. I also learnt how to design and create paid search adverts.
Day five: Engagement Team
I spent my final day with the Engagement team, undertaking more social analysis for a luxury destination company.
Completing my work experience at Big Brand Ideas has meant that I’ve been exposed to so many new techniques and practices and although this has been a challenge, I’ve been lucky to have the chance to work with an extremely talented team of energetic, friendly and engaging people. Everyone has been more than happy to help me along the way and share their knowledge and experience of the industry.
